HISTORY

After being approached by Lyn Harry, three former members of the Canadian Orpheus Male Choir founded the Burlington Welsh Male Chorus (B.W.M.C.) on June 18, 2001. The first official practise session was Friday, September 7, 2001, at St Luke’s Church Hall in Burlington, with twenty-three potential members attending.  The B.W.M.C. is a Canadian Male Voice Choir, based on the Welsh tradition of Male Voice Harmony.

The first public performance by the B.W.M.C. was on March 1, 2002.  Since then the chorus has grown to a membership of 54 currently, has completed many public performances in various venues, and successfully completed its first overseas tour in February 2003 to the Cayman Islands, to celebrate their 500th Anniversary, and to South Wales and London, UK in 2006

On August 30, 2002 the B.W.M.C. was incorporated as a charity with the following objectives by the members

"To educate, entertain and increase the public understanding and appreciation of male choral singing, by providing performances of an artistic nature in public places, senior citizens homes, churches, community centres and educational institutions."

Through its public performances on behalf of various institutions the B.W.M.C. has contributed aid to various charitable causes.

The B.W.M.C. is proud and honoured to have performed at the 2004 Ontario Gymanfa Ganu Grand Concert in Peterborough, Ontario and the 2006 Festival of Male Choirs at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK
