Richard Street

RICHARD M. STREET received his formal music training in England in Piano, Organ & Choral. Upon immigrating in 1965 to Calgary he became a Music Teacher.

Choral directing is his first love and Mr. Street has directed church, southern gospel and community choirs across Canada.  He has appeared on Canadian television directing choir performances.

Mr. Street is a resident of Burlington where he currently holds the position of Director of Music Ministries at Appleby United Church, Burlington.

A freelance musician, a private music instructor of piano and music theory and an accompanist specializing in Royal Conservatory Examinations. He is also an accompanist for the Hamilton Board of Education and the Hamilton Suzuki School

Lois Howell

Born in Hamilton and married with a son and daughter, Lois is a resident of Dundas.

Lois taught Elementary School Senior Music in Hamilton. She left teaching to raise a family, but continued to accompany city school choirs for special occasions, concerts, and music festivals. She also accompanies instrumental students for festivals and University Auditions

Lois has accompanied a ladies' choir, "Les Chansonettes", for 20 years, as well as being the Accompanist and assistant Organist at Ryerson United Church, Hamilton

Lyn Harry, A.R.C.M., G.R.S.M., B.Mus.

Born in Llanelli, South Wales, Lyn Harry has been involved in music from childhood, becoming organist and choirmaster of his first choir at age 13. He received his Bachelor of Music and associate degrees at the Royal College of Music, London, England. He has accompanied such noted vocalists as Kathleen Ferrier and Sir Harry Secombe and in 1961 he founded and conducted the London Welsh Male Choir. Then, for 11 years, Lyn was Music Director of the Morriston Orpheus Male Choir in Swansea, South Wales. After moving to Canada, Lyn taught at the Royal Hamilton College of Music. He also founded the Canadian Orpheus Male Choir and the Hamilton Academy of Music. Lyn also guest conducted in the National Bicentennial Singing Festival of Philadelphia and the National Singing Festival in Minneapolis.  On August 10th, 2001 at the Welsh National Eisteddfod, held in Denbigh, North Wales, Lyn was honoured by being invested as an Honorary Welsh Bard for his lifetime services to music.

Regrettably, Lyn Harry passed away after a long battle with his health on Jan 14, 2006

The Honourable Lincoln M. Alexander

Born in Toronto in 1922 to West Indian immigrants, Lincoln M. Alexander served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Educated at McMaster University and Osgoode Hall, he was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1965. In 1968 Mr Alexander became the first Black Member of Parliament in Canada. He was Federal Minister of Labour in 1979, and served in the House of Commons until 1985. Upon his appointment in 1985, Mr. Alexander was the first member of the black community to serve as a Lieutenant Governor in Canada. He held this post until 1991 and made youth and education key areas of his mandate. After leaving office, Mr. Alexander went on to serve as Chancellor of the University of Guelph. In 1992 he was appointed a Companion in the Order of Canada, and was also appointed to the Order of Ontario.

CURRENT GUEST SOLOIST - Cory Knight - Tenor

Praised for his expressive singing and exciting stage presence, tenor, Cory Knight is beginning to secure a place among Canada’s rising young talent.

Past engagements include Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville with the Toronto Summer Music Academy, Charlie in the Artist of the Royal Conservatory’s production of Kurt Weil’s Mahagonny Songspiel, Lysander in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Il Principe in Respighi’s La Bella Dormente Nel Bosco both in association with the Glenn Gould School of Music.

On the concert stage Mr. Knight has appeared as the Roasted Swan in Carmina Burana, the tenor soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Grand Mass in C Minor, and Haydn’s The Creation and The Seasons.

This fall Mr. Knight will debut with Opera Atelier in the role of Telemaco in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria.

Mr. Knight is a recent graduate from the Advanced Diploma Programme at the Glenn Gould School. He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music, as well as a Bachelor of Education from York University.
